Peschisolido hails players after first away win

Burton Albion boss Paul Peschisolido has praised his player’s persistence as they beat table toppers Chesterfield 2-1.

The Brewers took the lead through James Collins, as he dispossessed Dwayne Mattis and calmly placed the ball past a sprawling Tommy Lee in the Chesterfield goal.

The Spireites levelled the scores thanks to Danny Whittaker’s close-range shot as he turned in Derek Niven’s initial shot.

Shaun Harrad wrapped up the points for Burton with a snap shot on the turn.

The Brewers first win away from the Pirelli

Peschisolido told BBC Sport: “I thought the performance was excellent.

“They were unbeaten at home and we hadn’t won away, so it was kind of written.”

Niven was hero turned villain for the Spireites as he was given his marching orders following a professional foul.

Chesterfield could have snatched three points at the end but Scott Malone saved the Brewers with a goal-line clearance to deny Craig Davies.

Staffordshire derby ends in 0-0 stalemate

Port Vale and Burton Albion were made to share the points after a goalless draw at the Pirelli Stadium last night (Nov 2).

Vale headed into the game as favourites after completing a derby 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra last weekend, but they couldn’t break down the stubborn Burton defence.

Vale were without midfielder Anthony Griffith, who was suspended after seeing red in their match with Crewe.

And Micky Adams surprisingly handed a debut to Bradford loanee Jake Speight ahead of club captain Tommy Fraser.

Speight came close on four minutes but failed to meet Gary Robert’s ball across the box.

Burton found their feet after quarter-of-an-hour as Shaun Harrad causes the Vale defence problems.

Harrad glanced a Russell Penn cross wide before blasting a 20-yard shot over just before the half-hour mark.

The second-half was much of the same as both sides struggled to get a foothold in the game.

Burton had pot shots through Aaron Webster and Adam Bolder but both sailed over the crossbar.

Vale could have snatched three points at the end, but Doug Loft fired wide summing up a frustrating evening for both sides.

Brewers record first-ever win over Bradford

Burton Albion strolled to a 3-0 win against Bradford City, their first ever win over the former-Premier league outfit.

Shaun Harrad fired the Brewers into the lead from the spot just after the half-hour mark after Lewis Young was brought down by Bradford stopper Jon McLaughlin.

On-loan striker James Collins doubled the advantage ten minutes into the second-half with a glancing header courtesy of Adam Bolder’s teasing cross.

The Brewers polished the game off in style through Russell Penn’s calm finish with just two minutes remaining.

The win hauls the Brewers up to 12th, just two points off the play-off spots.
