Kidsgrove Athletic boss Peter Ward described his side’s 1-0 loss to Romulus Tuesday night (Nov 9) as ‘absolutely atrocious’.

The Grove were unable to beat the Sutton Coldfield-based side who sat 20th before the game.

The defeat moves Ward’s men down to 9th in the Evo-Stik First Division South with a trip to Loughborough Dynamo’s on Saturday (Nov 13).

Ward said: “We can make excuses for the game, the pitch and missing a number of players but the fact is we played absolutely atrocious.

“I have been here for five years now and that is the worst performance I have seen from the lads.”

Key players Adam Beasley, Tim Sanders and Danny Schwartz were all sidelined as they push for a start at the weekend, but Ward stressed this is no excuse for the result.

He added: “I put out a good enough team to beat Romulus.

“I didn’t see much from them, but they worked a lot harder and wanted the win more than we did.”

Ward is down to a squad size of 13 at the moment and is looking to bring in some players over the coming weeks.

He said: “We have a limited squad, and we need a forward to hold the ball up so I am looking to bring someone in for that.

“We are having a good look around because there are still areas to improve on.”

Kidsgrove Athletic boss Peter Ward has asked for a response from his players ahead of tonight’s (Nov 9) league match at Romulus.

The Grove lost 2-1 to Brigg Town at the weekend with James McCarthy’s goal the only highlight in what Ward described as a below-par performance.

He said: “We were below-par on Saturday and three or four of the lads have an off day.

Adam Beasley

“I just want to see a response from the players because we now know we can’t take anybody for granted in this league, everyone is beating one another.”

Ward will be low on numbers for the trip to Romulus after Jimmy Sanders (ankle), Adam Beasley (shin) and Danny Schwartz are all major doubts.

Romulus are 20th in the Evo Stik First Division South after their 4-1 defeat to Belper Town at the weekend.

Kick-off is 7.45pm.

Kidsgrove Athletic manager Peter Ward has said he is disappointed after a ‘below-par’ performance in his side’s 2-1 defeat to Brigg Town.

Brigg Town put themselves 2-0 up before a James McCarthy goal halved the deficit.

But Ward said the Grove never deserved anything out of the game.

He added: “We just had a bad day at the office. “I am disappointed because three or four of the lads didn’t perform and it was just overall a below par game for us.

“We made a mistake for their first goal, and then a sloppy error gifted them a second, but we must bounce back.”

Brigg scored early-on and were gifted a second as Craig Dills lost the ball in midfield and the Brigg Town striker slotted home comfortably.

McCarthy scored his second goal in as many games but Kidsgrove couldn’t secure any points from the game.

Kidsgrove travel to Romulus on Tuesday (Nov 9) night. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
