Kidsgrove Athletic boss Peter Ward has asked for a response from his players ahead of tonight’s (Nov 9) league match at Romulus.

The Grove lost 2-1 to Brigg Town at the weekend with James McCarthy’s goal the only highlight in what Ward described as a below-par performance.

He said: “We were below-par on Saturday and three or four of the lads have an off day.

“I just want to see a response from the players because we now know we can’t take anybody for granted in this league, everyone is beating one another.”

Ward will be low on numbers for the trip to Romulus after Jimmy Sanders (ankle), Adam Beasley (shin) and Danny Schwartz are all major doubts.

Romulus are 20th in the Evo Stik First Division South after their 4-1 defeat to Belper Town at the weekend.

Kick-off is 7.45pm.

Kidsgrove Athletic manager Peter Ward has said he is disappointed after a ‘below-par’ performance in his side’s 2-1 defeat to Brigg Town.

Brigg Town put themselves 2-0 up before a James McCarthy goal halved the deficit.

But Ward said the Grove never deserved anything out of the game.

He added: “We just had a bad day at the office. “I am disappointed because three or four of the lads didn’t perform and it was just overall a below par game for us.

“We made a mistake for their first goal, and then a sloppy error gifted them a second, but we must bounce back.”

Brigg scored early-on and were gifted a second as Craig Dills lost the ball in midfield and the Brigg Town striker slotted home comfortably.

McCarthy scored his second goal in as many games but Kidsgrove couldn’t secure any points from the game.

Kidsgrove travel to Romulus on Tuesday (Nov 9) night. Kick-off is 7.45pm.

Kidsgrove Athletic boss Peter Ward has been full of praise for debutant James McCarthy after their 2-2 draw with Lincoln United.

McCarthy, who has been released by bottom of the Blue Square Premier side Altrincham, helped to set up Nick Ward for Kidsgrove’s second goal.

It was the quality on McCarthy’s cross that made for an easy tap-in and manager Ward said he is a flexible player.

He added: “Jimmy can play out wide as well as up-front.

“We swapped him for Liam (Shotton) on Saturday and he looked dangerous, and even set us the second goal up”.

Kidsgrove Athletic manager Peter Ward said he was pleased to see more of a killer instinct to his side in their 7-2 win over Cammell Laird last night (Nov 2).

Liam Shotton completed a superb hat-trick and James McCarthy scored his first goal for the club.

Dave Walker also bagged a brace alongside Adam Beasley’s strike.

Ward said he had a stern chat with the players as they entered the break at 1-1.

He added: “We played reasonably well in the first-half but we needed to kill the game off.

“We missed four or five chances in the first-half and I told the lads we had to up the tempo.

“I was very impressed with the reaction I got out of them, and for the last 30 minutes of the game we were all over them”.
